Faith is a blessing to us all and gives us great happiness and peace at all times. For us to strengthen our faith, it is vital that we read the Word of God, as learning the importance of true faith is necessary for Christians. We might have heard the word “faith” countless times, but it is always good to meditate on what the Bible has to say about it. Understanding faith and knowing the Giver of Faith gives us the strength to press forward.
The Bible tells us that faith “shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see” (Hebrews 11:1 NLT). No other component of our Christian lives is more important than faith. To be a Christian means to have faith, and that faith is directed towards God. Faith is something that we cannot acquire on our own. We can come into possession of faith only through the grace of God. The faith that Christians have comes from God alone. By acknowledging this truth, we will then know where to go when our faith dwindles, which is to God in Christ.
Most dictionaries today define faith as a “belief in, trust in, or devotion to something or somebody.” All human beings believe in something or someone, but not all have faith in the Almighty God. Without faith in the One True God, it is impossible for us to please Him (Hebrews 11:6). It is only by believing in Jesus Christ and by devoting our lives to Him that we can please the God Almighty. Faith is believing in God and the works of Jesus Christ, even if we cannot actually see Him.
The Need for Faith
Faith is a gift from God. For us to share the faith we have, it is important that we share the Gospel of Christ with other people. People must hear the Word of Christ before they can have faith. In Romans 10:17, it is said that faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. We don’t have the power and the “free will” to have faith. It is only by the grace and mercy of God that we can achieve it (Ephesians 2:8-9).
We can only become children of God if we have faith in Him. God rewards those who earnestly seek Him (Hebrews 11:6). This is not to say that we have faith or devote our lives to Jesus Christ just to get something from Him. Rather, it is by the grace of God that He blesses those who are faithful to Christ. We need to have faith in order to be saved. In Luke 7:50, Jesus engaged in a dialog with a sinful woman and said, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.” As you can see, faith brings peace into our hearts. This is because the moment God gives us faith, His cup of wrath is removed from us. We don’t want to face the wrath of God, and for us to avoid it, we need to have faith in Jesus Christ.
The Ultimate Origin of Faith
The amazing thing about our faith in Jesus is that it sustains us to the very end. It gives us peace and hope, knowing that we will soon be in heaven enjoying Jesus Christ. Let us cherish our faith and diligently ask the Lord to strengthen it every day. It says in 1 Peter 1:8-9, “You love him, even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him now, you trust him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy. The reward for trusting him will be the salvation of your souls.” (NLT)
Let us give thanks to the Lord, who is the ultimate origin of our faith. Because of our faith in Jesus Christ, we are no longer condemned (Romans 8:1). You can definitely enjoy Jesus and all His favors if you put your faith in Him. How blessed are the children of God, for their faith comes from Him. How generous is our God to give us faith and salvation, even though we do not deserve it!
