What Does The Bible Say About Prayers?

The power of God is vastly tremendous in that within just a few words He spoke everything into existence. From the smallest particles to the biggest superclusters known in the universe, God created them all out of nothing. His knowledge is infinitely towering in that He knows everything from beginning to end. God’s greatness is both unrivaled and unsurpassable; He established everything, and all things have been created through Him and for Him (Colossians 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:). Yet by His grace and mercy, regardless of His supremacy and sovereignty in all things, He has made Himself accessible to us. Reaching out to our transcendental God and making our requests known to Him is absolutely possible. And it is by prayer that we get to connect with the Most High.

It is beyond our comprehension and mind-blowing to realize that the most powerful Being in the cosmos takes the time to stop and listen to our prayers. God is always ready and willing to hear us when we speak. The Bible tells us in 1 John 5:14, “And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.” Regardless of our prayers’ depth, eloquence, and brevity, one thing is for sure—God hears us. 1 Peter 3:12 tells us the ears of the Lord are open to the prayer of the righteous. The Bible also tells us in James 5:16 that the earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results (NLT). God created prayer in order for us to receive and enjoy His supernatural help. In prayer, we get to survey how God moves in our lives, and in prayer, we get to observe His grace and power in our lives.

The Gift of Prayer

God desires all men to come to Him (1 Timothy 2:4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.), and prayer is His invitation to us human beings to get to know Him. Prayer is a gift from God and is a great way of communing with Him. Through prayer, our relationship with God becomes deeper and more meaningful than ever. And because of Jesus Christ, we now have access to the throne of grace and the power of the Holy Spirit through prayers (Hebrews 4:15-16). Jesus Himself set a great example of prayer for us His children. The Bible spoke of Jesus praying to the Father several times, and one of the best examples is in John 17. Jesus also taught us how to pray in Luke 11:1-13. Prayer has tangible effects on our lives since it gives us a deeper and clearer insight into Who God is and what His will is.

Prayer is a central part of our Christian life since it gives us an opportunity to make our requests known to God. Praying is basically “talking to God.” Praying to God means communicating or expressing our emotions, desires, and even our problems. Remember that our fellowship with Him becomes stronger as we constantly pray. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 tells us, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” By examining this passage, we will know that it is the will of God for us to pray without ceasing. Prayer is a spiritual discipline that is truly worth developing. And, of course, it offers myriads of benefits and advantages that every Christian will surely enjoy.

The Power of Prayer

The prayers of a Christian contain great power from God Himself, Who makes all things possible (Matthew 19:26). One can easily behold spectacular signs, wonders, and miracles through prayers. Even a simple prayer from the heart packs an immense power—enough power that it can move mountains and divide the seas. Because there is power in prayer, we can draw strength, energy, and wisdom from it in order to carry out the Lord’s purpose in our lives. The more we understand the power of our prayers, the more it influences our lives. Praying to God transforms how we think and feel about Him and the world around us. Prayer has the power to shape us into more joyful, contented, and satisfied individuals. Prayer does not only make our outlook in life better, but it also has this amazing power that improves whatever circumstance we are facing.

In prayer, we sense and perceive the joy and hope found in the name of Jesus. Jesus expressed His faithfulness in answering our prayers in John 14:13. He said, “You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it so that the Son can bring glory to the Father.” (NLT) What is great about praying in Jesus’ name is that we are assured that whatever we ask shall be given. Praying in the name of Jesus Christ is one way of abiding in Him. And in John 15:7, Jesus tells us, “If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.” The Word of God tells us that whatever we ask in Jesus’ name, it will be done. This is not a suggestion or speculation but a guarantee rooted in truth and spoken by God Himself—it will be done!

If things get dark and you feel lost, kneel on both knees and pray to God. When life gets cold and you feel alone, put your hands together, palm to palm, and feel the reassuring warmth of the Holy Spirit. In prayer, you are not alone. Always remember that the Holy Spirit indwells our prayers. The Holy Spirit envelops our prayers with the love of Christ and because of this, every word and utterance that flows out from our mouths becomes a sweet offering to the Lord. Our prayers then become so big and powerful that all our problems in life shrink into oblivion. Sweet and genuine prayers to God can instantly cast out sickness and diseases! The impossible has now become possible, and this is where our prayers multiply our joy. And so let us wake up in the morning and sleep soundly at night, knowing that our gracious God will surely answer all our prayers in Jesus’ name.
